A new scam on the website Gumtree has been revealed by the National Landlords Association (NLA).
Renting a property is usually a pain free experience, with deposit schemes and estate agencies making things easier and safer, however some people are not aware of the dangers with searching for a property on line, especially on websites such as Gumtree.
So, what can you do?
- Never send over money unless you are certain the landlord is genuine, feel free to ask to see their ID
- Rent through a trusted letting agent
- Use secure and trusted websites
- Never pay money upfront unless you know the landlord
